This year alone, police in London have been able to stop the effects of an overdose for more than 100 people by using naloxone.
The London Police Service said since January 2019, officers in the city have administered naloxone to 111 people and, in many cases, those experiencing an overdose were given more than one dose. A total of 192 doses were given for an average of 1.73 doses per person. Of the 111 people, 84 were male and 27 were female.
The medication is credited for saving the lives of 103 of those who were suffering from an overdose.
Previously, in the last six months of 2018, London police officers administered naloxone to 59 people. Two died from an overdose.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported its naloxone statistics on Tuesday and said its officers have saved 102 lives since 2017 by utilizing naloxone.
