Fire has destroyed a house that was under renovation in northeast London.
Firefighters were called to the single-storey home at 427 Briarhill Ave., near Magnolia Gate around 6 a.m. Thursday. Flames were seen shooting through the roof when crews arrived on scene.
"We had to use a ladder truck, applying water from above the house to get ahead of the fire and to get the fire knocked down, said Platoon Chief Shawn Fitzgerald. "Then we had to chase fire in the walls in the attic space around the chimney. Currently, the chimney is starting to collapse. There is potential for structural collapse."
Safety concerns have kept firefighters from entering and searching the home. According to neighbours the house was undergoing renovations and no one currently lives there.
No injuries have been reported. Damage is estimated to be approximately $400,000.
So far, there is no indication what sparked the blaze.
"A fire investigator from the fire department is on scene and they will be conducting an investigation to determine what led up to this fire," said Fitzgerald.
London police are working to notify the owner of the home.
Crews have cleared the scene. Fire investigation continues to determine the origin, cause and circumstance. Fire Investigator estimates approximately $400,000 loss. A quick response & actions by fire crews provided protection to neighbouring homes. #ldnont #lfdont pic.twitter.com/LnSJw45kYu
