Man charged in random stabbings

Charges have been laid against a 20-year-old London man in connection with a pair of unprovoked and seemingly random stabbings in the north end of the city.

The first incident happened around 6:20 p.m. on Friday when a man inside a business in the area of Adelaide Street North and Huron Street was approached by an unknown man and stabbed. The suspect ran from the scene.

Fifteen minutes later, a man walked into a home in the area of Belfield Street and Norwood Avenue and stabbed the male resident inside. The man then took off, heading north from the home.

In both cases, the men who were stabbed suffered minor injuries.

Shortly after 7 p.m., an unidentified man tried unsuccessfully to steal a vehicle from a parking lot at Adelaide Street North and Huron Street. He ended up running from the area.

Police said they believed the three incidents were connected and on Monday announced they had made an arrest.

Brandon Haine, 20, of London was taken into police custody on Saturday. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, and theft under $5,000.

An additional charge of assaulting a police officer was laid after a London police officer was punched in the face while transferring Haine to the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre. The officer was treated for minor injuries.

Haine is scheduled to make a video court appearance in relation to the charges on Monday.
