Woman charged in St. Thomas rollover

A 30-year-old London woman is facing charges after a single-vehicle crash that saw an SUV hit a pole then a tree in St. Thomas.

According to St. Thomas police, an SUV sped passed another vehicle stopped at a red light at First Avenue at Wellington Street around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The driver lost control of the SUV in the intersection and hit a pole and a tree before the vehicle rolled and skidded to a stop.

As part of their investigation, police determined the licence plates attached to the SUV were stolen plates.

"Miraculously no one was injured during the collision," St. Thomas police said in a statement.

The female driver was taken to hospital as a precaution though. She has since been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended, using unauthorized licence plates and failure to stop for a red light.
