Young wins London West

Kate Young is going back to Ottawa to represent London West.

The Liberal incumbent reclaimed her seat Monday night.  With all 243 polling stations reporting, Young received 30,054 votes. That is 10,336 more votes than Conservative rival Liz Snelgrove and 15,044 more than the NDP's Shawna Lewkowitz.

"I just want to cry because we have worked so hard. There was never a moment that I didn't think we could do it because I knew that everyone was so committed," said an emotional Young.

A large crowd of her supporters chanted "Kate, Kate, Kate" as she arrived at her election celebration at Kubby's Bar and Grill on Commissioners Road West moments after learning she would be returning as the riding's MP. This is Young's second term as a Member of Parliament. She first won London West in 2015 under a Trudeau Liberal majority government. Now she goes back to Ottawa as part of a Liberal minority government.

"We will work with a minority. We will work with other parties to make sure we do the best for Canada," said Young. "We have to keep moving forward as far as climate change is concerned. There is so many different things that people want our government to do and do even better. We are committed to do that."

Young stated one of her priorities is ensuring London gets its fair share of infrastructure money.

She also took time to thank her campaign volunteers, who she said helped her knock on 46,000 doors in London West since the campaign began 40 days ago.

"They stuck with me through thick and thin," said Young.

She went on to say she couldn't have done this without the support of her family.

"The love of my life, Brian, my son, my daughter, and my daughter in-law I love you so much. Thank you for being with me every step of the way," said Young.
