UPDATE: Pedestrian dies after hit and run on Highway 401

A 43-year-old Quebec man has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit and run crash on Highway 401 east of Woodstock.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Wednesday shortly before 8:30 p.m., a vehicle travelling east on the highway struck Damitri Baranov while he was outside of his vehicle in Blandford-Blenheim Township.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before emergency crews arrived.

The Quebec man was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate.
