Police investigating election sign fires

London police are investigating after three election signs were set on fire in the riding of London West.

Two of the signs, bearing the name and face of Liberal incumbent Kate Young, were burned on Belmont Drive. A third was damaged by fire on Briscoe Street.

"While the signs were all damaged, there was no additional damage resulting from the fires," police said in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

It's not the first time local candidates have reported vandalism during this election campaign. Last Wednesday, Conservative candidate for London West Liz Snelgrove reported that someone smashed the window of the door to her campaign office.

Earlier this week, London North Centre Green Party candidate Carol Dyck reported that one of her campaign volunteers was assaulted while canvassing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
