Three charged after London meth lab raid

Three people from the Toronto-area are facing charges in connection with a raid at a suspected methamphetamine lab in southeast London.

RCMP, with the help of London police and OPP, searched the former Sicilia Club of London at 923 Commissioners Rd. E, near Adelaide Street on Monday. Inside the vacant building, investigators found suspected methamphetamine and several chemical precursors used in its production.

Thanh Phan, 35, of Mississauga, as well as 38-year-old Du Lam and 39-year-old Thanh Tieu of Brampton are now charged with one count each of production of a controlled substance and possession of items with the intent to use them to produce a controlled substance.

The trio appeared in London court in relation to the charges on Monday.

"People who set up and operate these clandestine labs to manufacture drugs in our neighbourhoods show a wanton disregard for the safety of our communities," RCMP Inspector Marwan Zogheib said in a statement.

The London Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Unit and Health Canada were also brought in to assist with the investigation.

The RCMP is offering its thanks to area residents who were affected when emergency crews converged on the neighbourhood and reassures all steps were taken to maintain public safety.
