Man dead after 'violent' rollover in Norfolk

A single-vehicle rollover crash south of Waterford has claimed the life of a man.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Blueline Road between Concession 11 Townsend and Concession 12 Townsend around 5:20 a.m. on Friday.

"It's been determined that the vehicle was travelling northbound on Blueline Road when the driver lost control, entered the ditch and rolled violently several times," Norfolk OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk said.

The driver of the vehicle was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Our thoughts and prayers are going out to that man's family as officers knock on their door, letting them know that their loved one is deceased as a result of a motor vehicle collision," said Sanchuk.

Collision reconstruction investigators are on scene trying to determine the cause of the crash. It is believed speed and a lack of seat belt use were contributing factors, police said.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Blueline Road between Concession 11 Townsend and Concession 12 Townsend is expected to be closed until 1 p.m. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and not to go around road closed signs. Since police began their investigation, two people have driven around the roadblock, Sanchuk said.
