London school mourns 'athletic, energetic' student

A young boy who died following a medical emergency on the first day of class at a northeast London school is being remembered as energetic and as a friend to all.

The Thames Valley District school board (TVDSB) sent parents and guardians of students at Cedar Hollow elementary school a message Wednesday night to inform them of the boy's passing.

The message stated the Cedar Hollow student would be remembered as "a well-liked student, who was athletic, energetic, caring, and a friend to all." It asks parents to share the information with their child "as appropriate."

"Members of the TVDSB Traumatic Events Response Team have been on standby and will be available at the school to support students and staff at this difficult time. Your child may wish to talk further with you about this loss. If you would like some material to assist you with this discussion, please call the school," the message states.

The exact nature of the medical emergency has not been released. The flag at the school has been lowered to half staff.

Privacy laws prevent the school board from making any further comment about the boy's death, a TVDSB spokesperson said.
