Court proceedings for the woman charged in connection with last month's explosion in Old East Village have been put off for four weeks.
Daniella Alexandra Leis, 23, of Kitchener was to make her first court appearance in the matter on Wednesday. However, she was not present in the courtroom. Alex Dobson, an agent from her defence lawyer's office, filed a designation to appear on her behalf.
Dobson told the court the defence is waiting for disclosure from the Crown. As a result, the case was adjourned until October 2.
Leis is charged with 12 offences including four counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and four counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The charges stem from the August 14 explosion on Woodman Avenue. The blast happened minutes after a vehicle, which had been reportedly driving the wrong way on Queens Avenue, crashed into a home at 450 Woodman Ave., severing a gas line.
Seven people - four firefighters, two police officers, and one civilian - were hurt in the explosion. While 450 Woodman was destroyed in the initial blast, 448 Woodman and 452 Woodman were torn down by crews in the days that followed. Another ten homes were badly damaged.
The community rallied around those affected with more than $100,000 in financial support being donated, along with clothing, toiletries, furniture, and other household items.
