Provincial police want to hear from metal recycling businesses that may have been approached by anyone peddling a large amount of copper wire.
OPP issued the appeal as they continue to investigate a $6,500 copper wire theft from a hydro station on Oxford Road 33 in East Zorra-Tavistock Township.
Between August 9 and August 23, someone damaged a fence and a gate to get into the area. They then proceeded to remove thousands of dollars worth of grounding copper wire.
"Everyone needs to realize that this type of theft puts hydro workers in danger and the public at risk when important grounding wires are removed," said OPP Inspector Tony Hymers.
Police are asking anyone with information about this theft to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
