St. Thomas police were called by a concerned citizen around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The citizen reported seeing the puppy panting inside the car for over a half-hour. Police came to the scene on Gladstone Avenue and Metcalfe Street. They found the dog's owner inside the Elgin County Court House.

"The dog was removed from the vehicle in distress, given water and fully recovered," police said in a news release issued Wednesday morning.

According to Environment Canada, the temperature in St. Thomas at 3 p.m. Tuesday was 25 C with a humidex reading of 32 C.
