Oneida Nation of the Thames residents are being urged to limit their water usage.
The call to conserve from the Oneida Public Works Department comes as the Indigenous community's water supply has reached a low level. Hot, humid weather conditions are partially to blame for the water shortage.
"Oneida is well equipped to manage demand under normal circumstances," Oneida officials said in a statement. "It's when we experience extreme weather conditions and everyone's consumption peaks at once, that adequate supply for emergencies is jeopardized."
Residents are asked to keep showers to under five minutes, only wash dishes once a day, minimize watering lawns and gardens, fix leaky pipes, don't let water run, and avoid filling swimming pools.
The conversation measures, effective Friday, will "ensure that there is continuous supply of water," the statement said.
The conserve water alert will remain in place until further notice.
