Rockers rejoice.
This year's Western Fair will see half a dozen Canadian rock bands take over the grandstand over three days.
Fair officials revealed the concert line-up for the 144th edition of the 10-day event on Tuesday.
Hamilton-based, Nova Scotia-born hard rock quartet The Trews will perform September 10. The five-time Juno nominated group has been performing since 1997 and has earned 17 Top 10 rock radio singles and two gold-certified albums. Toronto's Julian Taylor Band will open for The Trews.
Vancouver pop-rock band Marianas Trench takes the stage on September 11. The group has released five full-length studio albums since 2001 and won the 2013 Juno for group of the year. Their show will be opened by Virginia to Vegas - American-born Canadian singer-songwriter Derik Baker.
Trooper and Platinum Blonde co-headline the third night of grandstand musical acts on September 12. Trooper's ten studio albums have earned multiple gold and platinum awards. The "Raise a Little Hell" singers have sold millions of records over the past 44 years and previously won a Juno for band of the year. Platinum Blonde has been rocking crowds since the 1980s. Their debut album included hits "It Doesn't Really Matter" and "Standing in the Dark" which helped the band rise to fame across Canada and south of the border.
The three concerts range in price from $30-$35 with tickets going on sale this Friday in person at the Western Fair District box office, by phone at 519-438-7203 and online at www.westernfairdistrict.com. Entrance to the fair is included with the price of the concert ticket.
With the live concerts shifting back to the grandstand this year, additional stadium style seating has been constructed for the covered, outdoor venue.
“In recent years, we have shifted some of the entertainment attractions back to the grandstand, including the Demo Derby,” Fair Director of Marketing Greg Blanchard said in a statement. “The grandstand is a nostalgic place for many fairgoers so it’s fitting that we are adding three concerts to the Grandstand lineup this year.”
The 2019 edition of the Western Fair runs September 6 to 15.
