Chemical mishap sends one to hospital

One person was taken to hospital after a chemical mishap at Fanshawe College.

London firefighters were called to the campus after reports of an explosion involving chemicals around 1:50 p.m. on Monday.

"There was a report of an explosion within the lab itself, which was not actually found. But there was one patient that was transported to hospital with chemical related symptoms," said Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger.

At this point, fire officials do not know what chemical caused the incident within the labs in "D" building. There were no other reported injuries.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, firefighters did not have to evacuate the building.

"The lab itself actually has its own HVAC system, so there was no threat to any other students within the vicinity of the lab," said Mosburger.
