Tip leads to robbery suspect arrest

A tip from the public helped London police nab a man wanted in relation to a series of cheque-cashing scams.

An arrest warrant for Tevin Haidar, 27, was issued two weeks ago after five people between the ages of 20-70 were allegedly asked or forced to deposit a cheque into an ATM and turn over the cash to a suspect between March 27 and May 1.

While some of the incidents involved violence, none of the victims were injured, police said.

Haidar was arrested in the city on Friday after police received a tip from a member of the public. He is charged with robbery, robbery with violence, uttering forged documents, possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000, fraud, failing to comply with a probation order, and failing to comply with recognizance.

Police are thanking the public for its help with the investigation.
