Woman dies after being brutally beaten

A woman who had been seriously injured during an assault in a London motel room has died.

The London Police Service said on Sunday around 3:55 a.m., the woman was found by police at the motel on Wellington Road South after officers responded to a disturbance.

The woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died on Wednesday.  A post mortem examination was conducted on Thursday but the cause of death has not been released.

A 41-year-old man, who police say was in a long-term relationship with the victim, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault prior to the woman's death. The man's name has not been released, which police initially said was to protect the identity of the victim.

Police added an investigation is still ongoing and it is unknown if any further charges will be laid.

"No further information will be released pending the outcome of that investigation," police said in a media release.
