Father and son ejected during ATV crash

A 12-year-old boy is fighting for his life and his father has been seriously injured following an ATV crash in Norfolk County.

The Ontario Provincial Police reported at around 8 p.m. on Thursday that the crash involved a side-by-side ATV and occurred on Lynn Valley Road. Police said the vehicle was travelling east when the driver, the 12-year-old boy, lost control and entered the roadside ditch. The vehicle rolled and ejected its two occupants.

The young boy was just to hospital by ambulance and has since been airlifted to another hospital with life-threatening injuries. The boy's father, a 47-year-old man, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was also taken to hospital.

Police said neither the son or father was wearing a seatbelt or a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed is also believed to be a factor.

An investigation is ongoing.
