Homeowner subdues break-in suspect

A homeowner confronted and subdued a man who allegedly broke into his Oxford County shop.

According to OPP, the homeowner awoke around 3:30 a.m. on Monday and found a man inside his shop on Culloden Line, northwest of Tillsonburg. The two got into an argument before the confrontation turned physical.

The man tried to run from the area, but the owner of the property followed. The pair got into a second fight during which the homeowner subdued the man and called police.

Officers arrived on scene and arrested the man without incident.

A 45-year-old Woodstock man is charged with break and enter, assault, trespassing at night, possession of a firearm or ammunition, and failure to comply with a probation order.

He is scheduled to appear in Woodstock court at a later date.

The incident has prompted police to remind residents to always be aware of their personal safety at all times and to contact police immediately when a crime is in progress.
