Family argument ends with gunshots

Charges have been laid against a 19-year-old St. Thomas man accused of shooting his bedroom wall after a spat with his brother.

The two men had been arguing inside the family's southeast-end home around 4 p.m. Thursday when the 19-year-old, who was said to be drunk, went to his room and allegedly fired four rounds into the wall. The man's 27-year-old brother called 911 to report the incident.

St. Thomas police surrounded the home shortly after and arrested the 19-year-old without incident as he was leaving on his bicycle.

A gun was seized by police during a search of the home.

"The accused was in legal possession of the restricted weapon at the time of the incident," police said.

No one was hurt during the incident.

The 19-year-old man is charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner.
