Wet weather has again prompted the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) to issue a warning to area residents to be extra cautious around waterways.
Forecasts show the London region could receive between 25 to 50 millimetres of rain by Saturday after wet weather moved in Thursday night. While no serious flooding is anticipated, the conservation authority expects water levels in streams, ditches, and rivers to rise to near full bank conditions. Water levels will remain elevated for a few days and flooding in some low-lying areas is possible.
"The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard," the UTRCA said in a statement. "Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses."
Flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas are at seasonal levels and the conservation authority will operate them to reduce any downstream flooding.
