A day after a London taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint, one man has been charged while another is still on the loose.
The cabbie picked up two men in the area of King and Adelaide Streets, who asked to be driven to Cartier Road around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday. When the cab arrived at the destination, one of the men pulled a handgun and demanded the driver give him his belongings.
One of the men then got into the driver's seat and reversed the taxi into a parked vehicle, before demanding the cabbie take the wheel again, police said. The cab driver was able to call 911, leaving the line open, so police could locate his vehicle.
Officers stopped the cab on Hudson Drive. One of the men took off in an unknown direction, while the other was arrested nearby with the help of the canine unit. Police seized a replica handgun and some stolen property.
The taxi driver wasn't hurt, but his cab sustained approximately $3,500 worth of damage.
Andrew Ramkissoon, 20, of London is charged with armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, theft of a vehicle, uttering threats, and breach of probation.
He is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges Friday.
Police continue to search for the second suspect, described only as a Caucasian male.
