Third pot shop pitched for London

A third cannabis retail storefront is being planned in London, this one along Richmond Row.

An application to open a pot shop at 691 Richmond St., Suite 5 was submitted Tuesday by Ranjit Basra to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). The proposed cannabis store would be known as J. London and would operate directly beside former illegal pot dispensary, the London Relief Centre.

The illegal business closed for the final time in December following the fifth police raid on the property since it opened in September 2017. Two robberies were also reported at the store.

Members of the public have until March 19 to voice any concerns they may have with the latest proposed location.

Other possible cannabis retail outlets being considered in London include Central Cannabis at 666 Wonderland Rd. and Tweed at 1025 Wellington Rd. – a south-end plaza that is currently home to Chapters, the Beer Store, Farm Boy, and David’s Bridal.

The AGCO, the provincial regulatory body responsible for approving or denying retail cannabis store site applications, allocated seven of the first 25 cannabis retail licences in Ontario to the west region. So far, three of the seven private retailers have applied to open storefronts in London.

The west region covers an area stretching from Windsor to London to Waterloo and Niagara.
