London's rat problems appear to be easing, according to a new list of the province's so-called 'rattiest' cities.
The top 25 list was released Tuesday by Orkin Canada. The pest control company based its rankings on the number of residential and commercial rodent treatments it performed in Ontario last year.
While London still made the annual list, it fell four spots from the previous year to number 18. London has been steadily falling since Orkin began compiling the data in 2016.
Toronto, Mississauga, and Scarborough took the top three spots on the list in 2018, as the three cities keeping pest control experts the busiest.
To help keep rats and mice out, Orkin suggests homeowners trim shrubbery back at least one meter from exterior walls, seal all cracks and holes in the foundation and install weather strips at the bottom of exterior doors, and eliminate any moisture sources such as clogged gutters or water gathering in trash bins.
As rodents only need a small hole to gain entry into any property, homeowners should periodically check perimeter walls for potential entry points. Any that are found should be filled with steel wool and then sealed using a caulking gun.
