Woman rescued from flood waters in Port Dover

Ontario Provincial Police say a 77-year-old woman was rescued from her home with flood waters rising in Norfolk County.

Officers, along with the Norfolk County Fire Department, rescued the woman from her home on River Rd. in Port Dover. In a Periscope broadcast shared by the OPP West Twitter account, Constable Ed Sanchuk said the woman's home was one of several affected by rising flood waters.

The woman was not hurt.

With flood waters rising in the area, Sanchuk said barricades have been set up but drivers have been ignoring them, putting their well-being at risk.

"We're seeing tons of people driving through the water, I have no idea why. Someone's already received a ticket for that," said Sanchuk, adding that if people do not have to be out and about, the best place for them to be is in their homes.

Weather conditions in the region have been deteriorating due to a winter storm, which has been packing high winds, rain and snow.
