St. Thomas police officers cleared in alleged assault

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared St. Thomas police of any wrongdoing in relation to the alleged assault of a 29-year-old London woman last summer.

Police Chief Chris Herridge contacted the SIU on June 5 of last year after receiving a complaint from a woman who said she was assaulted by officers after being arrested three days earlier.

The SIU launched their probe of the incident on June 6.

Herridge was advised by the SIU last Monday that the investigation was closed and no further action would be taken.

"There are no grounds in the evidence to proceed with criminal charges against the officers," police said in a statement issued Wednesday.
