Parents looking for ways to keep their kids entertained on Family Day have no shortage of activities to choose from throughout London.
Families can spend the the annual provincial holiday, which falls on the third Monday in February, enjoying everything maple at the Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Public skates are being held at two city arenas free of charge. Skates run from 1pm-3pm at the Kinsmen Arena on Granville Street and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Stronach Arena on Sandford Street.
The Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre will run family-friendly activities from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It begins with a free pancake breakfast and continues with kids crafts, basketball, and swimming.
There will be a free Family Day drop-in at the Byron Optimist Community Centre from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with games for all ages planned, while the South London Community Centre is hosting a free family open gym day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Storybook Gardens is offering horse drawn wagon rides, an all-day pancake breakfast, and skating on its refrigerated 250 metre skating trail. Festivities run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum of Ontario Archaeology will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with indoor and outdoor activities. Regular admission rates apply.
London’s Children’s Museum is challenging families to spend quality time together playing oversized games. Families can participate in Giant Snakes & Ladder, Kerplunk and giant Jenga. Activities run 10a.m. to 5p.m.
At Eldon House at 481 Ridout St. North from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., families can tour London’s oldest residence and see The Amazing Corbin and his 'Flea Circus' perform. Admission is by donation.
Grocery stores, shopping malls, including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre, will be closed for the day. As will the LCBO, Beer Stores, and the Labatt Retail Store downtown.
Banks, schools, and provincial and municipal government office will not open their doors. But there will be mail delivery, as Family Day is not a holiday for federal employees.
The LTC will be running on a Sunday schedule.
Everything returns to normal on Tuesday.
