Knights broken by Spirit 6-3

Damien Giroux and Owen Tippett scored two goals each in the Saginaw Spirit's 6-3 home win over the London Knights Saturday night.

The Knights are still in first place in the OHL Western Conference with 80 points, six points ahead of Sault Ste. Marie.

Saginaw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the latter half of the first period. Giroux scored his first goal of the evening at 13:59, then Reagan O'Grady followed suit just 52 seconds later. London got on the board less than two minutes after that when Kevin Hancock scored his 40th goal of the season, but the Spirit got the two-goal advantage back before the break on Tippett's first score of the night.

The Knights pulled back within one when Liam Foudy scored at 47 seconds into the second period, but Saginaw regained that goal with Brady Gilmour's tenth goal of the season later in the frame.

Giroux extended the Saginaw lead halfway through the third period with his second score of the night, but Alec Regula pulled London back within two scores on the power play at 14:29. However, Tippett soon scored his second of the game on a successful penalty shot.

Ivan Prosvetov stopped 55 shots in net for the Spirit. Jordan Kooy had 43 saves for the Knights.

The Knights head to Sault Ste. Marie Sunday afternoon for a game with the second-place Greyhounds.
