Belmont lockdown prompts replica gun warning

Provincial police in Elgin County are warning about the dangers of replica guns after a recent incident led to a lockdown in Belmont.

The OPP were notified about a person carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle on Belmont Road around 5 p.m. on Monday. Nearly a dozen officers flooded the area, which was locked down as a precaution.

Two people walking with an airsoft rifle were located on Belmont Road at Caesar Drive.

Police determined there was no threat to public safety, but are urging anyone transporting "firearm lookalikes" to use common sense. Information and legal requirements for firearm transport can be found by clicking here.

No charges were laid in relation to the incident in Belmont.
