Crews in St. Thomas are currently investigating a late-night fire at a nursing home that has left over 40 people displaced and sent seven people to the hospital.
The fire started around 10 p.m. Saturday night at the Caressant Care retirement and nursing home on Bonnie Place Street.
Firefighters spent hours fighting the blaze. EMS from several neighbouring counties arrived at the scene with ambulances to help transport those injured in the fire.
St. Thomas Fire officials said that seven people were sent to the hospital as a result of the blaze, including one firefighter who has since been released. At least one person is reported to be in critical condition. They add that the fire has caused 41 people to be displaced.
The Ontario Fire Marshall has been on the scene since 2:30 a.m. investigating. More information to come.
