Police recruitment campaign hits the big screen

London police are taking their effort to recruit new officers to the silver screen and social media.

The force launched a series of 30-second videos Friday that highlight a number of the different positions available and the benefits of working, not only in policing, but within the London Police Service. The ads will appear before all movies at Landmark Cinemas on Wellington Road and on Instagram and Facebook for the next four weeks.

“In order to get the best candidates to our door, we need to do more to let people know that we're actively hiring,” said Deputy Chief Daryl Longworth in a statement. “And that means making the investment to show people in London and across the region that we are a dynamic police service with many great opportunities.”

The social media ads will target people from Windsor to the Greater Toronto Area. Among the ads is one directed specifically at women and another to those with a diverse background. Diversifying the force and promoting it as an employer of choice are two of the key objectives laid out in its 2019-2021 business plan.

“We are hopeful that this campaign will help attract high-calibre candidates in what is becoming a very competitive market,” said Longworth. “Both London and this police service have much to offer people interested in a career in policing. We just need to let them know that we’re here.”

In addition to the 30-second ads, the service has also enhanced the recruiting section on its website and added a 2:30-minute video that touts London as a great city in which to raise a family. The video has also been added to the police YouTube channel.
