London police make record fentanyl bust

London police have made the largest fentanyl seizure in the city’s history, netting nearly $300,000 worth of the deadly opioid.

Officers with the guns and drugs section turned up 739 grams of powdered fentanyl, worth an estimated $295,600, during the search of a home on Castlegrove Boulevard in the northwest-end on Wednesday night.

Two naloxone kits, $3,650 worth of cocaine, two digital scales, and approximately $13,000 in cash was also seized in the raid.

Police searched the home after officers witnessed what they believed to be a drug transaction by a man in a rental vehicle in the area of Oxford Street East and Adelaide Street around 8 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was arrested without incident. A quantity of drugs and cash was found inside the vehicle by police.

That led police to search the home on Castlegrove Boulevard.

A 30-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, both from London, are charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. They were scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Thursday.
