Bystander's quick response saves man's life

Police in Norfolk County are looking to identify a Good Samaritan whose quick actions are credited for saving a man's life.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Thursday shortly before 5:53 p.m., an officer who was patrolling an area along Robinson Street in Simcoe found a Good Samaritan conducting CPR a man who had been found on the ground unresponsive with no pulse.  The officer then continued performing CPR until the unconscious man was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance where he regained a pulse. The man was then taken to a Hamilton area hospital for further treatment.

The OPP said the Good Samaritan was instrumental in saving the man's life.

"I would like to thank the Good Samaritan that stopped and assisted with life-saving measures prior to emergency services arriving. I am urging everyone to take some time to learn first aid and CPR, it saves lives and it works," said Inspector Joseph Varga, the detachment commander with Norfolk County OPP.

Police are asking the Good Samaritan to come forward so officers are able to thank them. The person is asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
