Londoners will gather by the hundreds in the downtown on Sunday to honour the country's veterans and war dead.
The annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph in Victoria Park will begin at 10:45 a.m.
As always, the veterans' parade will begin in front of the Delta Armouries at 10:15 a.m., traveling from Dundas St. to Wellington St., to Dufferin Ave., and arriving at the cenotaph. The Remembrance Day service will follow the march.
This year marks the 100th year of Armistice ending of the First World War. As such, this year's ceremony will pay special attention to the milestone. A special candlelight service will also be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the Carillon Bells. There will then be a march to the Cenotaph and a short service.
"Help us celebrate and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we who survive may live in the freedom we enjoy today," said the 2018 Remembrance Day Planning Committee on the city's website.
The London Police Pipes and Drums and the London Firefighter Pipe Band will also join together in the foyer at city hall at 6 a.m. on Sunday to play “When the Battle’s O’er” to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice.
A private ceremony will be held at Parkwood Hospital for the veterans unable to attend the service in Victoria Park.
