A retired veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, now a resident at London's Parkwood Institute, has raised $10,000 to help other veterans.
Retired Master Corporal Ed Duffney donated the funds he raised by selling t-shirts to the veterans care program at Parkwood Institute.
Duffney, who served for 35 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, designs and approves each t-shirt before they are pressed by a local print shop. Each of the designs pay homage to the sacrifice soldiers make for the peace and prosperity of Canada.
“The veterans need our help and I just want to make a difference,” said Duffney in a statement.
He sells each t-shirt for $20.
The money donated to the veterans care program will be used to buy ceiling lift equipment to help get elderly residents in and out of bed and new furniture for family visiting rooms.
“We are grateful and inspired by Mr. Duffney’s commitment to the veterans we serve,” said Heather Tales, director of the veterans care program at St. Joseph’s Health Care London. “His dedication to raise awareness and fundraise for the program goes a long way to support the special comforts that transform a hospital into a home-like environment for our veterans.”
