Dozens charged in Highway 401 aerial traffic blitz

Over 70 charges were laid during a two-day aerial traffic blitz by provincial police along Highway 401 in Middlesex and Elgin counties.

The OPP stopped 66 vehicles on the highway between October 13 and 14 as part of the enforcement initiative aimed at increasing public compliance with safe driving measures. In total, 72 charges were laid, including 38 for speeding and 24 for tractor-trailers following too closely.

According to police, some of the drivers nabbed for speeding were travelling through a construction zone when workers were present.

Aggressive driving is one of the "big four" driving behaviours that lead to road fatalities in Ontario, said police.
