401 vehicle fire leads to arrest

Arson charges are pending against a London man after a vehicle went up in flames on the side of Highway 401 near Highbury Ave.

A Middlesex OPP officer spotted smoke coming from the eastbound BMW sedan and pulled over to help around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday. The officer then noticed a man walking away from the burning vehicle. He was tracked down a short time later with the help of the OPP canine unit.

London firefighters were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze. No one was hurt, but the vehicle was destroyed.

A 43-year-old London man is in custody and will be facing charges, police said.

The investigating is continuing.
