A day after a stolen vehicle rammed three other vehicles and nearly ran down a police officer at an east London apartment complex, charges have been laid against a 29-year-old man.
Members of the police street crime unit went to a home on Noel Avenue, near Marconi Boulevard in relation to a stolen vehicle investigation around 1:45 p.m. Monday. While officers were trying to make an arrest a stolen vehicle rammed a police cruiser and two civilian vehicles, causing roughly $23,500 damage.
The stolen vehicle was then driven toward one of the police officers who, fearing for his safety, fired his gun.
No one was hurt and a suspect was arrested without further incident, police said in a statement.
Patrick Douglas Sturgeon, 29, of no fixed address, is charged with 17 offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief over $5,000 and under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
