Ontario's police watchdog has terminated an investigation into the arrest of a man by London police earlier this year.
The Special Investigations Unit began its probe into the May 9 incident after a man who had been arrested was found to have a fractured rib. According to the SIU, two London police officers were on assignment in the area of Hamilton Road and Inkerman Street around 8:30 p.m. on May 9, when they saw an e-bike being driven erratically.
The officers turned on the emergency lights and siren on their cruiser and followed the e-bike until its driver pulled into the driveway of a home on Hamilton Road. After a brief struggle, the man was placed under arrest and put in handcuffs. He was taken to the police station and then to hospital, where a rib fracture was diagnosed.
However, it was determined that the fracture was from a previous injury.
“The man had no acute injury as initially diagnosed, but a previous healing injury," said SIU director Tony Loparco. "Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”
