Backpack with child's ashes stolen

A London mother grieving the loss of her son has been dealt another blow after a backpack containing his ashes was stolen from outside of an east-end business.

London police say the woman left her belongings outside of 1960 Dundas St., east of Clarke Rd. between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday. When she came back outside she realized her backpack had been snatched.

The grey Swiss Army brand backpack contained a so-called Comfort Cub, similar to the one pictured above. It is a grey teddy bear with two linked silver hearts on its chest and a sterling silver urn inside. The urn contained the ashes of the woman's deceased son.

The area, including inside local businesses, was searched but the backpack was not found.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
