Londoners looking for work may have an easier time doing so over the next few months.
According to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, 13 per cent of employers in the London region plan to hire during the final quarter of 2018. While 80 per cent intend to maintain current staffing levels, 3 per cent expect to cut back.
The remaining 4 per cent were unsure of their hiring intentions.
"What we are noticing is an increase in the public administration sector as well as an upbeat increase in the manufacturing/durable sector and the education sector. So the hiring climate in all three of those sectors is anticipated to increase," said Tara Benson, ManpowerGroup's area manager for central and southwestern Ontario.
The outlook for the education sector is the strongest it has been in 11 years, Benson noted.
For skilled trades, the figures indicate it is a job seeker's market.
"There is more jobs than there are of them," said Benson.
Nationally, 16 per cent of employers plan to increase their staffing levels in the fourth quarter of 2018, while six per cent anticipate cutbacks. Another 77 per cent expect their current staffing levels will remain unchanged, while the remaining one per cent are unsure of their hiring intentions.
Over 1,900 employers across Canada participated in the survey.
