The London St. Thomas unemployment rate has dipped for a third month in a row.
Figures released by Statistics Canada show the jobless rate for the London Census Metropolitan Area --which includes St. Thomas, Strathroy-Caradoc, Middlesex Centre, Thames Centre, Central Elgin, Southwold, and Adelaide-Metcalfe -- fell slightly to 5.2 per cent in August, down from 5.4 per cent in July.
It is the first time in 14 years the area's unemployment rate has gone below 5.3 per cent.
The dip comes as the London region's labour force fell last month by 100 and the number of people who found jobs rose by 600.
In Ontario, there was a slight bump in the jobless rate. It rose to 5.7 per cent in August, up 0.3 points from July. The province lost 80,100 jobs last month, according to Stats Canada.
Nationally, the unemployment rate climbed from 5.8 per cent in July to 6 per cent in August -- the result of a net loss of 51,600 jobs.
