Cops Bust Wrong Way Trucker On 401

A charge of careless driving has been laid after a transport truck was spotted driving the wrong way on Hwy. 401 in Dutton.

The tractor trailer drove in the wrong direction for roughly 1 km before Elgin OPP officers found it trying to turn around at the Coyne Rd. overpass around 9:20am last Thursday.

The transport was escorted by police to a nearby service centre. Police have said it is fortunate no one was hurt during the incident.

"If you are driving on a divided highway and you find yourself going the wrong way, don't keep driving, don't try to fix the situation yourself. Pull over to the nearest shoulder, stop, and give us a shout right away so we can get out there and make sure it is safe for you to turn around," said Constable Adam Crewdson. "This has been fatal many times in the past in Ontario and we don't want to see that."

A 52-year-old Windsor man is charged with careless driving.
