Arrest Made After Man Shot During Carjacking

London police have arrested a man in connection with an attempted carjacking that ended with another man being shot in the Westmount area.

The London Police Service said on Friday just after 5pm, officers arrested an unidentified man in the area Frontenac Rd.  Police said he was taken into custody in connection with an incident that occurred on March 29, in the parking lot of a public park near Viscount Rd. and Wonderland Rd.  Police said a man was shot twice and a woman was assaulted with a weapon after another man attempted to steal the parked vehicle they were sitting in. Both victims’ injuries were considered non-life threatening.

Officers have also recovered a firearm and a vehicle has been seized in relation to the shooting.

"This remains a very active investigation by our Street Crime Units and criminal charges are anticipated in the near future," said Detective Sergeant Blair Harvey in a statement issued Friday evening.

Police have previously stated that the circumstances of this shooting are very similar to a separate robbery attempt that occurred on February 11 in the Westmount Mall parking lot. A young couple was approached by a man who attempted to rob them of the vehicle.

"The circumstances of both this robbery and the robbery that occurred on February 11 remain under investigation," said Harvey.

Anyone with further information regarding this investigation is asked to contact police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
