Guns, Drugs Seized In First Nations' Raids

Over 190g of cocaine, 5 kg of marijuana, five firearms, and 14 prohibited weapons including nunchakus and throwing stars were seized during a series of police raids at two First Nation communities southwest of London.

The OPP Elgin-Middlesex Community Street Crime Unit partnered with the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police Service, and Munsee-Delaware Police Service to make the busts between March 10 and March 30.

The Walpole Island First Nation Police Service also offered assistance in the joint investigation.

Officers carried out the first raid at a property on Bodkin Rd. on the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation on March 10. A 30-year-old local man was arrested and charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon and possessing cocaine and a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Just over a week later, police searched a location on Three Fires Rd. on the Chippewas Nation of the Thames First Nation. Officers seized six stolen vehicles and a car hauler on the property. Two men and a woman from the First Nation are each charged with 26 offences including possession of prohibited weapons and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police then shut down an illegal marijuana dispensary on Melbourne Rd., near Jubilee Dr. on the Chippewas of The Thames First Nation on March 27. Cannabis, cannabis edibles, cannabis concentrates, a firearm, and various other weapons were seized. A 43-year-old London man is charged with a number of drug-trafficking and weapons-related offences and one count each of mischief and possession of property obtained by crime.

Three days after that, police raided a property on Hazel Rd. on the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation. Four people, ranging in age from 23 to 46, were arrested. They are charged with possession of a Schedule I and Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.

In total the four raids turned up over 190g of powder and crack cocaine, a quantity of individually packaged cocaine, over 5kg of cannabis, hashish, cannabis resin and shatter, Oxycodone and Hydromorphone tablets, 14 prohibited weapons, two semi-automatic rifles, and three non-restricted firearms.

Over $7,000 in cash and six stolen vehicles were also recovered.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.
