Knights Attacked 4-3 By Owen Sound in Overtime

Alex Formenton's hat trick wasn't enough for the London Knights.

Brett McKenzie scored twice, including the overtime winner, in the Owen Sound Attack's 4-3 win over the Knights Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

The Attack extends its lead in the best-of-seven first-round series to 2-0.

Formenton scored two goals in the first period for the Knights. The first put London on the board on the power play at 5:30 in. Aidan Dudas tied things up for the Attack just over a minute later, but Formenton responded with his second score at 8:55. Brett McKenzie's power play lamplighter evened the game again and the score was 2-2 at the first intermission.

Formenton completed his hat trick with a short-handed goal just over a minute into the second stanza. The score remained 3-2 Knights after 40 minutes of play.

The defence held on both sides of the ice until the final minute of regulation, when Owen Sound's Alan Lyszczarczyk tied the game with 49 seconds left in regulation. McKenzie's overtime winner came at 4:43 of the extra period, on the power play.

Olivier Lafreniere stopped 18 shots in goal for Owen Sound. Joseph Raaymakers had 43 saves for the Knights.

Game 3 is Monday night at Budweiser Gardens.
