An abundance of rain coupled with mild temperatures has water levels in streams, rivers, and ditches in the London area on the rise.
Between 5-10 mm of rain fell across the watershed on Monday, according to the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA). Another 15 mm of rain is possible by Tuesday morning.
While the UTRCA does not expect any serious flooding from the wet weather and above freezing temperatures, it does anticipate a rise in water levels.
"Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses, and keep children and pets away. Ice is unstable and thin, streambanks are slippery and the water is very cold. Do not go on frozen flood control reservoirs," the UTRCA said in a statement.
Streams and river waters will peak late Tuesday into Wednesday and remain elevated over the rest of the week.
Flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas are at seasonal levels.
Showers will switch over to flurries as the temperature falls to 0 C Tuesday afternoon.
