Curbside Christmas Tree Pickup Starts Monday

With the holidays over and the new year in full swing, the time has come for Londoners to kick their Christmas trees to the curb.

City officials are asking residents to drag their Christmas trees to within one metre of the curb by 7am on Monday. Crews will stop in each neighbourhood once to collect the trees which will then be chipped and composted.

Residents are asked to make sure that all decorations, tinsel, garland, tree skirts, and lights have been removed. Trees in plastic bags will not be collected.

Unlike in previous years, Christmas trees will not be removed with the regular garbage collection. To avoid missed pickup, the city recommends all residents have their tree to the curb by the Monday deadline.

The curbside tree collection began as a pilot program last year that saw roughly 11,700 Christmas trees collected curbside on two Saturdays in January and at city EnviroDepots. Temporary drop-off locations, which were used in the past, have been permanently closed.

Anyone who misses the tree pickup can bring their tree to any of the city's EnviroDepots or save it in their backyard until the spring yard material collection.
