Gun Scare Causes High School Lockdown

There were some tense moments for students at a northwest London high school Monday after reports that a gun was flashed during a school yard fight.

Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School on Sherwood Forest Square, near Wonderland Rd. was placed into lockdown just after 12:30pm following an incident involving two teens that escalated with one allegedly showing the other a possible firearm.

London police were called to the school, but those involved in the altercation took off before officers arrived. The school was locked down as a safety precaution for over an hour.

A message posted to the school's website states "there was no threat to students and staff."

It is unclear whether the two teens involved are students at Sir Frederick Banting. Police did confirm the incident was not random.

"At this time there is no risk to the public as the youths involved are known to each other. The investigation is in its early stages and officers are still on scene," said Constable Jessica Mullen.
